IPL 10 shines in Week 2 viewership too

Indian Premier League season 10 garnered an average viewership of 22.9 million Impressions across 10 matches (match 4-13) played and broadcast in week two (week 15 of 2017) of the tourney. In 2016, matches 4-13 of IPL 9 had garnered an average viewership of 17.2 million Impressions. The TG for the two seasons of IPL are All India 2+ (IPL 10) and All India 4+ (IPL 9).

This shows a 33 per cent growth in the viewership of matches played and broadcast in the second week of the tournament in IPL 10, vis-a-vis IPL 9.

The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians broadcast on Wednesday, April 12, was the most viewed match of the week with 29,535 million Impressions. These numbers are the combined viewership figures of Sony Max, Sony Six and Sony ESPN (SD+HD) since the matches are simulcast on all four channels.

Out of the total 10 matches played in week two, three matches were played and broadcast in the afternoon slots and the viewership for these matches are always lower than the matches played in the primetime (8-11 pm).

Looking at the individual channels, Sony Max stood at the top of the Hindi movies genre in Week 15 of 2017 with 1334.063 million Impressions, while within sports genre, standing on top two positions, Sony Six earned 458.932 million Impressions and Sony ESPN with 114.119 million Impressions.
