GEC Watch: Star Plus tops U+R and Urban markets, Sony Pal leads Rural

In BARC Impressions for Week 16 of 2017 (April 8 to 14), most of the channels witnessed degrowth in its numbers. Despite the fall in numbers, the pecking order of most the channels was the same. Star Plus continued its leadership in U+R and urban markets and Sony Pal continued to rule rural markets. Sony Pal also continued to be at No. 2 for the fourth consecutive week in combined markets. The channels’ CID, Baalveer and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah were among the top shows in rural markets. Interestingly, Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja topped the rural programmes list.

Top channels in U+R markets

As per select BARC India data for Week 16 (April 15-21) of 2017 for HSM (U+R): NCCS All: 2+ Individuals, Star Plus retained its lead position garnering 639.788 million Impressions. Sony Pal stayed at No. 2 clocking 595.069 million Impressions. At No. 3, Colors garnered 570.624 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 4 with 513.153 million Impressions. At No. 5, Zee TV garnered 503.735 million Impressions while its sister channel Zee Anmol followed with 459.352 million Impressions. At No. 7, Sony SAB garnered 442.185 million Impressions. Star Utsav slipped to No. 8 with 437.567 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 9 with 378.091 million Impressions while Life OK was at No. 10 with 350.232 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (urban+rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 2+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin – Season 2 stayed put at the top position with 11.397 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stayed at No. 2 with 10.318 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai at No. 3 garnered 8.566 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs stood at No. 4 with 8.341 million Impressions. Rishtey’s Naagin – Season 2 stood at No. 5 with 7.604 million Impressions.

Star Plus retains its urban lead with 428.379 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors garnered 373.187 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 3 with 280.767 million Impressions while Sony SAB stood at No. 4 with 274.589 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television is at No. 5 with 254.251 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 225.547 million Impressions followed by Sony Pal which garnered 146.952 million Impressions. At No. 8, Rishtey garnered 127.014 million Impressions. &TV stood at No. 9 with 117.641 million Impressions and Star Utsav stood at No. 10 with 115.500 million Impressions.

As per select data {HSM (urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hours): 2+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin- Season 2 led the top programmes list with 6.599 million Impressions. Zee TV;s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 2 with 5.961 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai stood at No. 3 with 5.667 million Impressions. At No. 4, Colors’ Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki garnered 5.092 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs stood at No. 5 with 5.082 million Impressions.

Sony Pal continued to lead rural markets garnering 448.116 million Impressions. Rishtey took second position with 386.138 million Impressions. Zee Anmol was at No. 3 with 363.852 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 4 with 322.067 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 5 with 222.967 million Impressions. Star Plus stood at No. 6 with 211.408 million Impressions while Colors followed with 197.436 million Impressions. At No. 8, Sony SAB garnered 167.596 million Impressions while Big Magic followed with 135.120 million Impressions. Life Ok trailed at No. 10 with 124.684 million Impressions.

Zee Anmol’s Jamai Raja topped the rural programmes chart with 6.084 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Baalveer stood at No. 2 with 5.777 million Impressions and Rishtey’s Naagin - Season 2 took the third spot with 5.693 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah followed with 5.426 million Impressions while the channel’s CID was at No. 5 with 4.987 million Impressions.
