Budget beefs up business news channels' viewership
Considering the viewership of Wednesdays of last four weeks (Week 1-4) versus Wednesday (February 1, Budget Day) of Week 5, the overall English Business News genre grew by 5.5 times from 109 million Impressions to 595 million Impressions

Budget Day is a very special day for all of the country and more so for the Business News Channels every year. This time around the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the Union Budget 2017 on February 1, 2017.
CNBC TV 18 was the biggest gainer in terms of viewership on the day of Union Budget announcement on February 1, 2017. The channel grabbed 1.259 million Impressions in Week 5 (January 28 to February 3), against 0.275 million Impressions in Week 4 (January 21-27) or 0.238 million Impressions in Week 3 (January 14-20) {TG - All India (U+R) : NCCS AB : Males 22+ Individuals}.
In the current week 5, ET Now gained 0.240 million Impressions, while NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime together garnered 0.081 million Impressions, BTVi clocked 0.021 million Impressions and CNBC TV 18 Prime HD had 0.008 million Impressions.
Considering the viewership of Wednesdays (January 18) of last four weeks (Week 1-4) versus Wednesday (February 1, Budget Day) of Week 5, the overall English Business News genre grew by 5.5 times from 0.109 million Impressions to 0.595 million Impressions. For the same time period, the Hindi Business news genre grew by 91 percent from 0.282 million Impressions to 0.539 million Impressions. The data for the Hindi Business news genre is mapped on HSM: NCCS AB: Male 22+.
In Week 5 of 2017, CNBC Awaaz also grew tremendously in the Hindi Business News genre with 1.588 million Impressions, up from Week 4's 1.145 million Impressions and Week 3's 0.937million Impressions. The two player genre had Zee Business (the No. 2 rank) also increased its numbers to garner 1.168 million Impressions in Week 5.
The English general news genre too grew by 45 percent from 186 million Impressions to 270 million Impressions, comparing the Wednesday of the Budget announcement and the average of viewership on previous four Wednesdays (Week 1-4) - NCCS| AB| Males 22+.
The Hindi general news channel grew by mere 4 percent.
For the record, the Wednesday of Week 3 also had an interesting news piece on the 'CBDT puts on hold circular on taxation of indirect transfer of shares'. This had also shot the ratings of the Hindi and English business news genres.
