Rahul Kansal, Executive President, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd, who retired in August 2015 and was on extension of a year, has decided to move on after spending over 13 years with the company. Sources in the industry informed that Viral Oza, who joined BCCL in September 2015 as Marketing Director, will head the overall marketing functions of BCCL.

Kansal had joined BCCL in 2002 as Brand Director of The Times of India and was elevated as Chief Marketing Office in 2007. He further rose to become Executive President in April 2012 and was looking after brand and business strategy for The Times of India, The Economic Times, the Mirror range of city newspapers and the company's language brands.

During his tenure, The Times of India has emerged as the world’s largest circulated English newspaper across genres and formats, ahead of giants such as USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.

He was responsible for having developed and executed several high profile brand initiatives like India Poised, Lead India, Teach India, Aman Ki Asha and the Economic Times’ Power of Ideas. All these initiatives have received widespread acclaim at various forums, including India’s first-ever Grand Prix at Cannes and three Grand Prixs from the world newspaper industry’s foremost marketing association, INMA.

Kansal has been an advertising and marketing professional for close to 36 years.  He graduated from SRCC, Delhi University, in 1977, and after an MBA from IIM-Calcutta in 1979, has worked with some of India’s leading ad agencies such as JWT, O&M, Mudra DDB and Leo Burnett before joining The Times Group. He is a member of several professional bodies in the fields of advertising and media and has taught at various business schools.
