With this, BARC becomes the only registered television audience measurement system in India as registration for TAM Media is pending
BestMediaInfo Bureau | Mumbai | July 30, 2015
Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has been granted registration for operating as a television rating agency under the Policy Guidelines for Television Rating Agencies in India by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).
With this, BARC becomes the only registered television audience measurement system in India as registration for TAM Media is pending.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued, TAM Media Research said, “As per the last update received from MIB officials on TAM's registration under Policy Guidelines dated January 16, 2014, they informed us that TAM's registration is under process.”
It may be recalled that early in May this year, MIB had sent a letter “requesting” BARC to not release data till it completed its registration formalities. This request came one week after BARC rolled out its first television viewership ratings on April 29, 2015. BARC had applied for registration in November 2014, but till the time of releasing its first tranche of data, the registration had not been granted.
Hectic conversations were held between BARC and the Ministry officials on May 5 and 6, following which a solution was worked out to release second week's data as scheduled.
