The ratings battle is far from over. After the biggest advertisers on television decided to pull out their ads from the channels that insisted on monthly ratings, Discovery Networks returned to weekly TAM ratings yesterday, but its competition, Fox International Channels that runs seven channels in India, has written to TAM Media Research that it wants its ratings on monthly basis.
Fox International Channels has in its bouquet National Geographic Channel, Fox Traveller, Baby TV, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Adventure, Nat Geo Music and National Geographic Channel HD.
Highly placed sources in the industry have confirmed the development with BestMediaInfo.com. It is pertinent to note that Fox’s sister network Star India including Asianet and ESPN Star Sports have already opted for monthly ratings.
In the meanwhile, TV Today Network has openly supported TAM’s weekly reporting system. In a written statement, Ashish Bagga, Group CEO, India Today Group, said, “It is imperative to have a measurement system for the TV industry. For broadcasters who rely on advertising income, deliveries are of immense importance. Though the current measurement system may be found wanting on a lot of counts, broadcasters and advertisers need to patiently work together for everybody’s interest till an alternative currency takes birth. We as a group believe that everyone is free to take an independent decision and we have decided to maintain status quo on the TAM subscription and regularity of reports.”
