Zee TV's popular dance reality show is set to make a comeback with its new season this month. Dance India Dance Season 4 will start on October 26, 2013. The show, which has already been adapted into regional language formats, will be on air every Saturday and Sunday in the 9 PM slot. Incidentally, the slot just prior to that will be filled by a new comedy show, 'Bh se Bhade' - Zee's return to the genre after a considerable time.
The show which introduced terms like popping and locking while making viewers more aware of both national and international dance styles and forms will continue in its primetime slot, keeping in mind the huge popularity it has garnered over the last three seasons. The show, produced by Essel Vision, will be hosted by actor-model Jay Bhanushali. It replaces Dance Ka Tashan which has just ended.
In its fourth season, the show hopes to keep alive the same passion for dance which became its trademark in the first three seasons. To make it more interesting, the channel has decided to theme it around 'Dance it out' which is the message they are trying to give out to viewers.
"It is wonderful to think and feel that an art form which was not very popular before this got its due credit after DID came. There has been a barrage of shows after that, but DID was the first one. It is not just a competition for the contestants but also for the masters. That's why this platform is always open. It is going to be a dance of newer generation," pointed out Ajay Bhalwankar, Head, Hindi GECs and Programming Head, Zee TV.
"There are so many things happening around us on a day to day basis. But instead of doing something violent to protest we can protest through dance. If we are happy we can celebrate through dance. Likewise, when we are sad or angry or depressed, dance can be the way out. That is what I used to do when I joined the industry. And which is what I am urging people to do. Instead of being angry or keeping things bottled inside, 'Dance it out!'" said Grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty.
The show will also see a new set of judges. While the judges and masters from the first three seasons – Remo D'souza, Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis – would still be associated with the show, season 4 will see three new judges taking the chair. Mudassar Khan, known for his choreography in Bodyguard and Dabangg 2, will be the first master, while Feroz Khan of Dostana, Agneepath and Ra.One fame will be the second judge. The final judge will be Shruti Merchant who has already choreographed for big projects such as Kal Ho Na Ho, Devdas and the Dhoom franchise.
"We are proud of our choice of a fresh panel of mentors for Dance India Dance Season 4. It is their passion for dance which has landed them in these coveted positions in our panel of judges. Each of them has a unique personality and together, they're a lethal combination," said Nitin Keni, Producer, Essel Vision Productions.
With a record number of auditions across 19 cities this season, DID 4 promises to be much bigger. Keeping that in mind the channel has taken the show from just a TV show to the digital and on-ground mediums as well.
"We want to promote the concept of 'Dance it out'. So we have organised dance shows on different themes for different cities. People would come and dance around whatever theme the city has been given. Again, themes would be chosen by the judges and dancers can perform on those. They can then send videos or link their uploaded videos to us. This way every dancer can become a part of the show. Social media will be a very big part of this season. It is no more a one-way message where we say dance it out. The objective basically is to encourage and experience it,” said Zee Marketing Head, National Channels, Akash Chawla.
Regarding promotion of the property, Chawla said, “The teasers on TV before the show will also be about causes. While the first teaser will be against ragging, the second one would be about anti eve-teasing. There are other promos which we will be releasing soon. Promos which introduce the masters will also go on air soon. While there are no format changes, we will try to experiment with newer dance themes and introduce dance forms."
