Zee News Ltd yesterday evening honoured extraordinary heroes of the Indian security forces with 'Ananya Samman 2012' at a ceremony in New Delhi. With these awards Zee News salutes the nation's bravehearts in its own way.

Keeping in line with Zee News' philosophy of 'Soch Badlo Desh Badlo', the 'Ananya Samman' initiative was started in 2008 to show respect to the bravest of the brave who did not think twice when it came to committing their lives in the interest of the nation.

This year's Ananya Samman recipients include Lifetime Contribution Award to Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri from the Indian Army. Five others from the Army were also felicitated, including three martyrs – Lance Naik Hemraj Singh, Hawaldar Jaipal Singh Adhikari and Naik Krishna Kumar. The others from the Army are Major Anup Joseph Manjali and Subedar Pradeep Beck. Two bravehearts from the Indian Navy, both martyrs, who were honoured are Lt Commander FD Mogal and Leading Seaman Clearance Driver Umakant Panigrahi. Apart from the Army and Navy, two paramilitary personnel from ITBP were also honored – Constables Shiv Prasad and Bhoop Singh, both martyrs.

The guests included leading politicians cutting across party lines like Sushil Kumar Shinde, LK Advani, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Kapil Sibal, Sharad Yadav, Narayan Sami, Rajeev Shukla, Salman Khursheed and Harish Rawat to name a few.

Ananya Samman has travelled across the length and breadth of the country. Events are held to felicitate bravehearts both at the national level in Delhi as well through regional editions in West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Subhash Chandra, Executive Chairman, Zee News Ltd, said, “Zee News Ltd thanks all personnel from the military, paramilitary and security forces, their families and guests who came here and shared their valuable time to motivate us in this initiative. We are very happy that we have got this opportunity to motivate not only those who received these awards but also the youth of this country to help in nation building.”
