Millions of dollars worth of gold lies buried beneath Ghana's dense jungles and determined miners from all over the world come looking for them. However, unlike Alaska, in Ghana mining the gold is the easy part, keeping hold of it is where the challenge lies.
Amongst trigger happy neighbours, warring claims and illegal mining operations, American pair George White and Scott Lomu, both ex-property moguls bankrupted in the recession, attempt to set up a claim and turn their lives around. Their families need them to succeed but out there it's not just their livelihoods on the line, but also their lives.
Premiering on January 7, 2013, the new reality series will be telecast every night on Discovery Channel at 10 PM.
White and Lomu thought they had it made. By the time he was 25 years old, White was worth a million dollars, while 33-year-old Lomu was turning over deals for three million dollars apiece. But both were so intent on the next big deal that they ignored the warning signs – and lost everything in the 2008 US property crash that triggered the worldwide recession.
With their houses and families' future suddenly on the line, White and Lomu had to come up with an answer. Finally they made a life changing decision and headed for the jungles of Ghana in West Africa whose vast reserves of gold-rich ground mean even rookie miners with aging machinery can make a fortune.
Things seemed to go well for the duo in the beginning when, thanks to an investment loan, they were able to buy an 80-acre gold-rich claim deep in the Ghanaian Jungle. But getting the gold out of the ground is only the first part; the real danger comes once they find it. Facing hostile, gun-toting competitors, illegal roadblocks and underground mining operations the pair learn that in Ghana, gold mining can be deadly.
United by their will to survive and provide for their families, every moment is spent with passports in pocket in a dangerous world where one wrong move could result in a race to get out of the country alive. Against stacked odds, their stakes have never been higher. Join Scott and George as they risk their lives and battle mechanical difficulties, territory disputes, deadly competition and the jungle itself in an effort to reclaim the lives they once had.
