Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd. has formed a joint venture with world’s leading broadcaster RTL Group, a part of Germany headquartered media conglomerate, Bertelsmann. The 50/50 joint venture will launch a bouquet of several thematic TV channels in India. The JV also allows RBNL to access to RTL Group’s content production arm FremantleMedia’s content. RBNL has signed a preliminary, non-binding term sheet with RTL Group.
With 40 television channels and 33 radio stations in ten countries, RTL Group is the leading European entertainment network. The Luxembourg-based company operates leading TV channels and radio stations in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Greece, Russia, Hungary and Croatia. It is one of the world’s leading producers of television content such as talent and game shows, drama, daily soaps and telenovelas, including Idols, Got Talent, The X Factor, Good Times - Bad Times and Family Feud.
Reliance Broadcast and RTL will together establish a new powerhouse entity in the mainstream entertainment genre. Both the companies will jointly launch International English Entertainment TV channels across India in a phased manner. The JV will also exploit in the regional space and Hindi GEC space in a larger longer term relationship with the fact that Hindi GEC enjoys the maximum share in revenues.
With RTL’s forte in the production of television content with FreMantle, ranging talent, game shows, drama, daily soaps and reality shows like Idols, Got Talent, The X Factor, Good Times - Bad Times and Family Feud, this JV will have an excellent programming library to choose from, ensuring a unique television entertainment experience
The JV also aims better exploitation of TV properties through various Reliance platforms such as Mobile, Online and Gaming.
