The ‘BIG Indian Comedy Awards’ is a new initiative from the IP vertical of the Reliance Broadcast Network stable – BIG Live. The first-of-its-kind comedy awards will felicitate comic artists across Bollywood and television. The awards are being presented in association with Optimystix, known for their expertise in this genre of entertainment.

The winners will be decided by audience poll. The award categories will be spread across Hindi feature films and television shows.

Rabe T Iyer, Business Head of BIG Live, said, “It is our endeavor at BIG Live to create properties that are clutter breaking, entertaining and highly engaging. Comedy has been an extremely critical peg in storytelling in India, across both Bollywood and television, and a serious movie or daily soap is interspersed with comic scenes to bring some relief to high drama and break the monotony of love, romance or revenge. The last few years has seen comedy as a genre being given pride of place with movies and serials pegged on comedy. Hence, our offering of BIG Indian Comedy Awards. With our multi-media verticals and amplification across radio and television, we are confident of advertisers seeing excellent value and consumers gaining from this offering.”

Vipul D Shah, Executive Managing Director of Optimystix, said, "We are glad to a part of this unique initiative of honouring actors who excel in comedy. We at Optimistix have been involved with comedy as a genre and admire the talent that has come up. We are happy to partner with Reliance Broadcast Network in this first of its kind awards which will honour comedians across the film and television fraternity."

The awards ceremony will be held in end-September or early October. The awards will also pay tributes to legendary comedians of yesteryear.
