Dharma is planning to make a sequel of its decade old blockbuster home production, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Karan's plans for bringing back 'The Raichand' family on big screen is finally coming true. In 2001, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was a super hit, worldwide, with a business of Rs.200cr. This was the first ever Bollywood movie to get a theatrical release in Germany (with German subtitles) and later on, it went on to getting dubbed in the German language.

On being asked by a friend about a sequel to his runaway hit K3G, Karan at first took it lightly and laughed it off. He thought it's financially impractical and most importantly, it's not a great idea for a film in the current age and days. But when Senior AB gave thumbs up to the idea stating that “sequel was not only possible but also desirable and only Karan can do it.”, Karan couldn't say a no!

Karan then admitted, “It's a workable idea. I am no longer averse to it. It would be a bold step if I make it.” He further added, “it's very strange. But all the six main members of the cast are as dear to me now as they were 10 years ago when I made the film. I'm sure they're as charged about the sequel as I am.”

BigB, on his blog, also posted about the possibility of the story mentioning “It would be a story on the growth of the brothers and the problems that arise because of their independent understanding and working of the business empire of the father, a split within them and so on...”

In 2001, K3G was the winner of 5 Filmfare awards (Best Actress-Kajol, Best Supporting Actress- Jaya Bachchan, Best Dialogue – Karan Johar, Best Art Direction – Sharmistha Roy and Best Scene of the Year). Adding on to their success, they won two awards at IIFA (Best Male Playback award- Sonu Nigam & Best Supporting Actress – Jaya Bachchan).

A decade after, it will be interesting to see how the new story of Raichand will unfold and who will be the star cast this time to make it a successful sequel.
