IIFA Music Workshop gets a phenomenal response

Audience composes song along with musicians.

The IIFA Music Workshop conducted yesterday at 12th IIFA Awards was a huge success. Established to bridge the gap between India and the host country by means of sharing and promoting the music of both countries, the workshop is the ideal platform for Indian and International musicians and other professionals to interact and share ideas with emerging talent, professionals and other interested parties.

The workshop was conducted by lyricist Javed Akthar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and music composer Salim Merchant. In an interactive session with the audience the panel will compose a song in conjunction with them. The workshop incorporated a lot of interaction between the musicians and the audience.The audience comprised of aspiring students, industry professionals and anyone all those who shared an interest in the music of Indian Cinema. Also present in the audience was Lekha Bhardwaj, Subhash Ghai, Manmohan Shetty, Shyam Shroff and Shabana Azmi.

Live compositions took place as Javed wtore a few line for a song while Shanker Ehsaan Loy composed the music for it on stage, Lekha Bhardwaj sung theiconic song ‘Darrrling’ for her husband. Salim Merchant gave impromptu performances in the piano as a special treat for all of the people present. Shankar graced the audience with a performance of the song ‘Breathless’.

The workshop was held on the last day of the Weekend, the 25th of June, 2011, the same morning as the Floriana IIFA Awards. The IIFA Celebrations in Canada are presented by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and hosted by the Ontario Government.
