Delhi: IBM announced to its marketing and communications division employees on Tuesday that it will be reducing its workforce. According to reports, Jonathan Adashek, IBM's chief communications officer, conveyed the news in a brief meeting lasting about seven minutes.

Previously, in December, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna stated that the company was focused on enhancing the skills of its employees in AI, following an earlier plan announced in August to implement AI-driven changes, affecting around 8,000 jobs. IBM had also mentioned in its earnings call in January of the previous year that it would be eliminating 3,900 positions.

IBM clarified that in its fourth-quarter earnings report for the current year, it disclosed a charge related to workforce restructuring, which would amount to a very low single-digit percentage of its global workforce. The company stated its intention to maintain a similar level of employment by the end of 2024 as it had at the beginning of the year.
