In response to rumours about OpenAI potentially launching a search engine to compete with industry leader Google, the startup's CEO Sam Altman clarified that there are no plans for such a venture.

"Not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me (sic)," Altman wrote on X.

OpenAI has scheduled a virtual event on Monday, May 13, to showcase the updates to ChatGPT and GPT-4, the company's latest AI-based chatbot model.

The company was rumoured to be preparing for the launch of its own search engine, leveraging its AI capabilities.

"We’ll be streaming live on http://openai.com at 10 AM PT Monday, May 13 to demo some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates," it posted on X.
