New Delhi: Amazon is gearing up to release "Metis," an AI chatbot aimed at surpassing OpenAI's ChatGPT.
This follows a substantial $4 billion investment in AI, marking Amazon's intensified competition with tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Apple.
What is Metis?
Metis, named after the mother of Athena in Greek mythology, is part of Amazon's "Olympus" AI models. It promises to answer text and image queries conversationally, share links to sources, suggest follow-up questions, and provide images.
Utilising "retrieval-augmented generation" technology, Metis will deliver real-time responses, such as stock prices, and act as an advanced AI agent capable of sophisticated decision-making and task performance.
Amazon’s AI ventures
Amazon's journey in AI began with Amazon Q for corporate customers, followed by "Rufus," an AI shopping assistant, and an upgraded Alexa, "Remarkable Alexa," with a paid tier for additional revenue. Amazon is also investing $230 million in AI start-ups to further innovation in the field.
