New Delhi: The advertising industry bodies are likely to file a petition to the Supreme Court regarding making self-declaration certificates mandatory.

A source close to the development revealed to BestMediaInfo.com that various industry bodies held a virtual meeting this morning, and now the affected parties may be preparing to approach the Supreme Court by filing an intervention petition.

This development comes right after the MIB’s remarks in the meeting held on June 11, 2024, iterating that any step at this stage against the SC’s decision may lead to contempt of court.

Furthermore, the hearing on July 9, 2024, will observe the submission of affidavits on the SDC and clarification on the defaulters by that date, once the mandate takes effect on June 18, 2024.

The self-declaration mandate for advertisers took the industry by storm, with experts trying to measure the pros and cons of the decision. However, the much-awaited meeting by MIB for media and ad agencies held on June 11, 2024, left the affected entities mostly concerned.

Though the deadline for uploading the self-declaration certificates on the government portal remains the same, i.e., June 18, 2024, it seems like industry bodies aren’t stepping back from repelling the mandate.
