The CEO of YouTube, Neal Mohan has shared his vision for the company in 2024. In an open letter on the YouTube Official Blog, Mohan emphasised on how he wants the company to continue enhancing creativity and storytelling, a mission that was at the heart of the company’s values.
YouTube CEO has shared four major goals for 2024. AI tools for creators to offer AI features like Dream Screen for shorts to boost creativity; exploring additional avenues to increase and enhance creator income growth with features like membership and fan funding; enhance YouTube TV and extend the platform's experience to television screens and create a healthy online experience for kids, provide reliable election news.
As the world grapples with tackling AI, YouTube wants to ensure that AI does not replace it. Mohan says, “I’ve spent my career at the intersection of tech and creativity, and I recognise both the potential and the questions we face with generative AI…We want to help everyone create.”
YouTube will introduce Dream Screen, an AI experiment that will create backgrounds on the basis of an idea entered as a command.
The company’s aim of promoting creators as studios has also gained traction. Mohan has noted that there are over 3 million channels on the YouTube Partner Program, where creators share a part of the revenue generated. In 2024, the ways for creators to make money will be diversified.
YouTube’s entry to living room entertainment will include sports. Mohan said, “We just wrapped our first season of NFL Sunday Ticket, and it really shows the future of YouTube. We are bringing all of the content people want to see, like commentary from creators such as Deestroying and the Kelce brothers’ new podcast New Heights.”
However, the CEO stressed on the fact that protecting the creator economy will be fundamental to their vision in 2024. The company will take special care to produce a healthy environment for kids, and will create youth products in collaboration with parents and mental health experts.
