'Quest better than Vision Pro': Zuckerberg takes a dig at Apple again

Mark Zuckerberg

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has given the verdict on which product is better: Apple’s Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3 headset.

In a video shared on February 14, filmed using Meta's Quest 3 passthrough feature, Zuckerberg said, “I expected Quest would be a better value for money for most people since it’s really good and is like seven times less expensive, but after using it (Apple’s Vision Pro), I don’t think that Quest only has better value. I think Quest is the better product, period. ”

He also said that while different companies have different design criteria, Quest 3 wins on the majority of the criteria that people use mixed reality for.

"Apple's screen does have a higher resolution. But I was surprised by how many trade-offs they had to make to the quality of the device, the comfort, ergonomics and other aspects of the display in order to get to that," he said.

Quest 3 weighs 120 gm less than its Apple counterpart, thus making it more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. A wider field of vision and the absence of a wired battery pack also contributes to making Quest 3 “the better product”, according to Zuckerberg.

In terms of their content library too, Meta has inched past Apple. While Meta claims to have generated over $2 billion revenue from the 1000+ apps available on its app store, Apple claims it has developed only 600 apps for Vision Pro.

Meta and Apple’s fight has been ongoing for the last few years. Zuckerberg referred to this in his video - “In mobile, Apple's closed model won. But if you go back to the personal computing (PC) era, Microsoft's open model was the winner. In this next generation, Meta is going to be the open model and I want to make sure that the open model wins out again,” he said.

The two tech companies have also clashed in terms of app store policies and consumer privacy, with Zuckerberg calling Apple’s proposed app store policies “onerous”.
