MIB to launch NaViGate Bharat, upgraded RNI website, unified portal for govt ads

Today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur is set to unveil the National Video Gateway of Bharat, which will be the central repository of videos prepared by the government, an upgraded website facilitating newspaper and magazine registration. Additionally, a centralised platform for government advertisements will be introduced today, February 22, 2024.

NaViGate Bharat, short for the National Video Gateway of Bharat, serves as a platform for hosting videos created by various central government ministries and departments. Presently, it boasts approximately 2,500 videos covering a range of topics from different ministries.

Accompanying the recently introduced Press and Registration of Periodicals Act, 2023, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is set to unveil the "Press Sewa Portal."

This portal aims to facilitate communication between the Press Registrar General of India (currently referred to as the registrar of newspapers of India (RNI) under the existing act) and the owners, publishers, and printing presses of periodicals.

Under the proposed regulations, all requests for a certificate of registration must be lodged through the Press Sewa Portal.

Additionally, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will launch a revamped website for the Registrar of Newspapers of India. This upgraded platform will consolidate tasks like printer notifications and title verification applications. With the implementation of the new act, the website will undergo a rebranding as the official site of the Press Registrar General.

The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), tasked with managing government advertising, will also unveil its "Transparent Empanelment, Media Planning, and E-billing System" (TEMPEST).

Developed by BECIL, this new platform will enable print media, television media (including Doordarshan), radio, and community radio to apply for empanelment and check renewal rates through a unified portal.

Until March 31, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) will maintain the current NIC system for the majority of billing operations, alongside the implementation of the new system. Starting April 1, all billing for government campaigns, including the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, will transition to the new system.

The broadcasting division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has introduced a new feature on the Broadcast Seva Portal, enabling local cable operators (LCOs) to register and obtain their national registration number. So far, this link has garnered registrations from 28 LCOs.
