Indian media veterans Hormusji N Cama, Kundan Vyas and Surendra Kishore were among 132 recipients of the coveted Padma Awards for the year 2024 announced on the eve of Republic Day.
While Vyas and Cama were honoured with the Padma Bhushan awards, Kishore was awarded the Padma Shri Award. All three were given awards in the Literature and Education - Journalism field.
Hormusji Nusserwanji Cama holds the position of Managing Director at the Mumbai Samachar and is also a director at Bombay Associated Newspapers. Hormusji Cama served as the Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the year 2018-2019. Previously, he served two terms as the President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and held leadership roles as the Chairman of the Press Trust of India (PTI) and the Media Research Users Council (MRUC). He remains actively engaged as a board member of INS, PTI, and MRUC to this day. The Cama family has a longstanding connection with the media industry, being the publishers of the Mumbai Samachar since 1933.
Vyas is the Chief Editor at Janmabhoomi newspaper, which was established on June 9, 1934. Additionally, he has held the position of President at The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) in the past.
Born on January 2, 1947, Kishore is a seasoned journalist and has been practising forthright journalism in Patna for over five decades. He is widely acclaimed for his simplicity, honesty, and unwavering integrity.
This year, a total of 132 Padma Awards are set to be conferred. Scheduled to be presented by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Padma Awards ceremony is slated for March/April.
The Padma Awards are bestowed upon individuals distinguished in various fields such as Science and Engineering, Social Work, Public Affairs, Art, Medicine, Literature and Education, Sports, and Civil Service.
