Apurva Chandra, presently holding the position of Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has been entrusted with an additional responsibility as the Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
This assignment takes immediate effect and will continue until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further directives are issued, whichever occurs first.
Chandra took over as Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on August 23, 2021. Earlier, he served as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment.
He has long experience of dealing with issues relating to industries while working in the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India.
A civil engineer by education, Chandra has spent over seven years in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in the Government of India. He has been involved in framing various policies with regard to fuel supplies to industries, transportation, supply logistics, storage and distribution of fuel products, etc.
He was also associated with the Ministry of Defence as Director General with the mandate of strengthening the Indian Armed Forces by expediting the acquisition process. He signed major contracts during this role.
