Disney has initiated initial talks with prominent Indian magnates Sun TV network owner Kalanithi Maran and Gautam Adani regarding the potential divestment of Disney's assets situated in India. This includes segments of its streaming and television ventures, as reported by Bloomberg.
This development comes on the heels of a prior announcement suggesting that Mukesh Ambani, Asia's wealthiest individual, had also expressed interest.
Quoting sources, the Bloomberg report stated that Disney is exploring the possibility of divesting its assets in India, which encompass sports broadcasting rights and its regional streaming platform, Disney+ Holstar. The company is also considering the option of establishing a joint venture, potentially involving enterprises under the control of Maran, Adani, or Ambani, as reported by Bloomberg on Friday.
An earlier report by Bloomberg News indicated that discussions regarding the sale of assets had already taken place with Reliance Industries Ltd, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
The news report stated, “Adani Group—would acquire the assets to expand New Delhi Television. Maran would acquire the assets to complement Sun TV Network, a regional broadcasting company established by Maran in 1992, by adding potential streaming rights for cricket matches.”
In July, Reuters reported that Disney was actively exploring avenues for selling or seeking a joint venture partner for its digital and television business in India.
