A year after the Enforcement Directorate exonerated Republic TV from the charges of manipulating TRPs, its owner and editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami sought closure of the case.
Last year in September, ED claimed in its charge sheet filed before a special court in Mumbai that “no evidence was found against Republic TV in the alleged TRP rigging scam”.
According to a report in HT, Maharashtra’s home department last week sought more details from the Mumbai police in the alleged TRP scam following Goswami’s application seeking permission for case closure.
Quoting a top officer from the Maharashtra government, the HT report said that the state asked for details in all four FIRs filed against Goswami.
“They have asked about the chargesheet, a 32-point questionnaire on why cases need to be closed, and its impact if any. The state home department had referred the matter to the law and judiciary department which was of the view that the details provided by Mumbai police were not enough. We have to play safe if the matter goes to court at a later stage,” HT reported quoting a government officer.
