For the first time, the Indian Super League (ISL) has issued an invitation to tender for media rights.
The closed bid process will be overseen by Octagon, a media rights agency based in the US, according to media reports.
The tender includes home games of the national team, which comprise three FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers scheduled for the November, March, and June international windows, the reports stated.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has Football Sports Development (FSDL) as its marketing partner. FSDL is also the owner of ISL.
"The invitation to tender will be for an initial period of two years and will include television and digital rights," media reports cited a source.
Since its establishment in 2014, ISL has been televised by Star Sports in various languages. The ISL is an undertaking of the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and is co-owned by Reliance Industries (65%) and Disney Star (35%).
The broadcast rights agreement for Disney Star, which had a duration of five years, along with a separate four-year agreement, came to an end after the last season. As a result, FSDL decided to issue a tender for the broadcasting rights.
Earlier, various media reports stated that Viacom18 will be taking over the media and broadcasting rights for ISL after the upcoming 2023-24 season.
FSDL has communicated with all stakeholders regarding the tender and is expecting to secure a broadcaster within the next 15-20 days.
