TDSAT directs Kerala Communicators Cable to immediately restore signals of Star channels

Granting interim relief to Star India, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has directed Kerala Communicators Cable (KCCL) to immediately restore the signals of Star channels within 24 hours.

KCCL, which is a major distributor of television channels in Kerala, had abruptly discontinued the signals of television channels offered by Star India.

Despite repeated requests, KCCL had refused to re-activate the signals of Star Channels when IPL 2023 is being broadcast on its channels.

As a result, Star India had filed a petition before TDSAT challenging the discontinuation of signals of Star Channels by KCCL, which was listed for hearing on Tuesday.

The counsel for Star India brought to the Tribunal’s attention that no notice was given by KCCL either to Star India or the subscribers regarding the said discontinuation. It was further submitted that KCCL is in violation of the prevailing TRAI Regulations.

The Tribunal, considering the merits in the submissions made on behalf of Star India, has granted interim relief in its favour.
