Twitter has rolled out its Twitter Blue subscription service in India. As of now, it is available at a monthly purchase price of Rs 650 and Rs 900 on web and smartphones, respectively.
Earlier Elon Musk, CEO, Twitter, had emphasised that the pricing of the subscription-based model would be lower in emerging markets, but even with a discount on annual subscription, Twitter Blue costs Rs 566.57 in India as of now.
This is higher than even the monthly subscription rates of premium video and audio subscription platforms like Netflix, Spotify, etc. in India.
It is also to be noted that the rollout of Twitter Blue falls in line with the Chief Twit’s aim to push for monetisation on the micro-blogging platform.
Under the revamped subscription of Twitter Blue, Twitteratis will be able to get early access to select new features, post longer videos, see half the ads when compared to non-verified people and rocket to the top of replies, mentions and search, as per the microblogging platform.
In a first, Twitter Blue has also increased the character limit of tweets from 280 characters to 4,000 characters when posting, replying or Quote Tweet-ing. As of now, this feature is only available to audience in US.
While it is only the Twitter Blue subscribers that can write longer tweets, everyone on Twitter can read, reply and quote tweet on the 4,000-character tweets.
