Wipro Consumer Care has announced its entry into the packaged food and spice segment by acquiring Nirapara, one of the traditional food brands in Kerala.
As per a statement by the company, Wipro Group has signed a definitive agreement with the spice brand.
“Nirapara is our 13th acquisition and gives us a clear foothold in the spices and read-to-cook segment,” stated Vineet Agarwal, CEO, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting.
With this acquisition, Wipro Consumer Care has joined the spice bandwagon which already has FMCG players like Dabur, Emami, Tata Consumer Products and ITC which are already present in the spice market.
As of today, Nirapara's 63% business comes from Kerala, 8% from rest of India and the remaining 29% from international markets, largely from Gulf countries.
Anil Chugh, VP, Wipro Consumer Care, also emphasised that there is a huge opportunity in this space for shifting consumers from unorganised to organised market by offering authentic, pure and trusted spice mixes.
Wipro Consumer Care recorded a revenue of Rs 8,630 crore in FY22 and its product portfolio includes personal wash, toiletries, facial care, wellness, home care, electrical wire devices, domestic and commercial lighting and seating solutions. It has a strong brand presence with a significant market share across segments in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
