Underdog Athletics, the exclusive Indian distributors and licensees of Under Armour, on Monday, announced the onboarding of Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra as its brand ambassador.

As per the American sportswear brand, this is an important part of its strategy for sustainable long-term growth in India.

Tushar Goculdas, Managing Director, Underdog Athletics, said, “Neeraj defines grit, resilience, and determination. He continues to persevere, put in the hard work and consistently improve his performance, truly representing Under Armour’s ‘The Only Way Is Through’ philosophy. We are privileged to partner Neeraj in our pursuit of building Under Armour as the country’s most-loved athletic performance brand.”

“Neeraj is absolutely the perfect athlete to represent the Under Armour brand in India as he aligns to the motive of Under Armour which is the idea of a ‘focussed performer’ who is relentlessly trying to improve his fitness and sporting performance every day,” Goculdas added.

Chopra said, “I am really excited to represent Under Armour, and hope that together we will be able to inspire millions of aspiring athletes across the country. I believe that the right athletic gear makes a significant difference in an athlete’s performance, and I look forward to using the brand’s innovative products to further improve my fitness and perform better.”

With this association, the athletic brand wishes to increase its customer reach and connect by leveraging the athlete’s connections with the Indian consumers, as per Goculdas.

Further, by the end of this week Under Armour will also launch its new multimedia campaign with Neeraj Chopra showcasing him in different fitness activities and training sessions.

As of now, there are over 28 Under Armour stores in 18 cities of India and the company has plans to open up at least 8-10 new stores every business year in the country, according to Goculdas.
