IPG Mediabrands' Shashi Sinha bestowed with the Hall of Fame honour at IAA Leadership Awards

The Hall of Fame award has been bestowed on Shashi Sinha, the CEO of IPG Mediabrands, at the IAA (International Advertising Association) Leadership Awards.

The award marks Sinha's remarkable contribution to the advertising industry and his services to that of hundreds of clients over the past three decades.

The awards show is being held in Mumbai.

Sinha is one of the most important voices in the advertising industry. Along with his role as CEO at IPG Mediabrands, Sinha is also the chairperson of BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council).

He is also associated with various industry associations like the Media Research Users Council, Advertising Standards Council of India and the Advertising Agency Council of India in prominent roles.

While receiving the award, Sinha recalled his time as a newcomer in the industry.

"I had never thought that 26 years ago when I started my journey, I would be standing here, receiving this award," he said.

He had started his career as a product manager at Parle. He then set up Lodestar in the ’90s. Upon being appointed the CEO of IPG Mediagroup- as it is known today in 2012, he was responsible for making the agency future-ready. IPG Mediagroup bought three agencies — Lodestar UM, Initiative and BPN — under one umbrella so it was considered a massive task.

While receiving the awards, Sinha expressed his gratitude towards Ramesh Narayanan, Founder of Canco Advertising, the late ad man Anil Kapoor and Dr Verghese Kurien of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation.

Sinha mentioned that Dr Kurien took him under his wings and how that taught him important life skills. "It taught me integrity, it taught me to look at the big picture, taught me to stand for our conviction. I was lucky to have a mentor early on in life.”

Speaking about his relationship with the late Anil Kapoor, the former Chairman of FCB Ulka, Sinha said, “He taught me everything in advertising. He taught me courage and conviction, but more importantly, he taught me something that is very relevant today- the importance of 'biradri'. You must do as much as you can for the organisation you work for but you must also do as much for the ecosystem.”
