Delhi Press' Motoring World magazine organises the 'Motoring Awards 2022'

The Motoring World magazine recently organised the ‘The Motoring World Awards 2022’.

The award ceremony was organised in Delhi, on July 1. The awards – presented by Bridgestone India and powered by State Bank of India - were being held on-ground for the first time since 2019; as the awards for 2020 and 2021 were held digitally, owing to the pandemic.  

At the event, celebrating the finest four-wheelers and two-wheelers in the Indian automotive sector and attended by the who’s-who of the automotive industry. Mahindra XUV700 was declared the Motoring World Car of The Year 2022, while the TVS Raider 125 rode away with the Motoring World Motorcycle of The Year 2022 award. 

Published by Delhi Press, Motoring World is an automotive magazine in, now in its 23rd year. 

Every year, the team at Motoring World sits down and takes a good look at all the four and two wheelers that were launched in the previous year, specifically the ones that they have thoroughly reviewed and tested.

During this year’s jury round, all the nominees were evaluated and discussed thoroughly by the team, and at the end of this process, they were left with the best automotive products in the country across several categories. For 2022, these were the winners in their respective categories. 

Four-Wheeler Awards

Hatchback of the Year: Maruti Suzuki Celerio

MUV of the Year: Hyundai Alcazar

Compact SUV of the Year: Tata Punch

SUV of the Year: Volkswagen Taigun

Premium SUV of the Year: Citreon C5 Aircross 

Luxury SUV of the Year: Mercedes-Maybach GLS

Premium Car of the Year: Skoda Octavia  

Luxury Car of the Year: Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Performance Car of the Year: BMW M340i Xdrive 

Design of the Year: Jaguar I-PACE 

EV of the Year: Audi E-TRON GT 

Car of the Year: Mahindra XUV700 

Pablo Chaterji, Executive Editor of Motoring World, said, “It is a matter of great pride that an Indian  manufacturer has designed and built a world-class (and safe) product, and we look forward to future offerings from Mahindra”. 

Manufacturer of the Year: Tata Motors

Chatterji, on the Manufacturer of the year award, said, “The second biggest car maker in India. A staggering share of India’s passenger EV car market. Funky designs, top-notch safety ratings and fun-to-drive products. We could go on, but based on these factors alone, we’re happy to award this gong to Tata Motors”.

Two-Wheeler Awards

Commuter of the Year: TVS Raider 125

Premium Motorcycle of the Year: Royal Enfield Classic 350

Adventure Motorcycle of the Year: Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250

Cruiser of the Year: Indian Chief Dark Horse

Performance Motorcycle of the Year: Ducati Streetfighter V4 S

Superbike of the Year: Suzuki Hayabusa

Design of the Year: Ducati Streetfighter V4 S

Scooter of the Year: Yamaha Aerox 155

Motorcycle of the Year: TVS Raider 125

Kartik Ware, Managing Editor - Motoring World, said, "This is what happens when someone makes a commuter with the soul of a cafe racer. When the focus is on economy as well as on entertainment, we don’t see how the bike can be anything but a winner. The TVS Raider is a rare motorcycle that does a lot more than anyone expected of it in this segment, and is a thoroughly deserving winner of the biggest award of them all.” 

Manufacturer of the Year: Royal Enfield 

Ware remarked, “For an Indian manufacturer to make motorcycles that appeal to riders all over the world, and to dive headlong into the very culture it’s helped to create is something that should make every Indian rider proud, even if they don’t ride a Royal Enfield.”
