Instagram's creator subscription features nearing launch?

Earlier this year, Instagram had announced that it was looking to launch creator subscriptions and was also working towards launching an exclusive story feature that would be accessible only to the subscribers of the creators. It seems that the social media giant is working rapidly towards rolling out these features.

According to a third-party app intelligence service, Sensor Tower, “Instagram Subscriptions” in-app purchase was added to its US App Store listing on November 1, and another purchase was added on November 3, 2021.

The app always tests its features with a select few audiences first and, hence, not everyone can see them as of yet, but their addition to the in-app purchases indicates that the updates might be arriving soon.

Prior to this, the app had also indicated that it was planning to expand its creator tools with NFTs and subscriptions.

Social media platforms are increasingly focusing on expanding the creator economy. Recently Twitter launched a ‘Super Follows’ feature that allows select users to charge their followers for ‘subscriber’ content.  The platform said people can create an extra level of conversation on Twitter to interact authentically with their most engaging followers while making money. Although, the feature till date is only available for people using IOS devices in the US and Canada.
