Minutes before the cabinet reshuffle, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad have resigned.

Javadekar was also the Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises.

Prasad was also holding Law and Justice, and Communications portfolios in the Government of India.

The departure of both the ministers holds significance at a time when the union government is in the process to enforce IT Rules, 2021, which has become a bone of contention between the government and the social media giants, especially Twitter.

On the other hand, the broadcast industry under Javadekar is struggling with several regulatory issues including the new tariff order by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which has disrupted the broadcast industry.
