India kicks off Cannes Lions campaign with 22 shortlists

India has kicked off her Cannes Lions campaign with 22 shortlists across the Print & Publishing, Design, Outdoor, Media and Health & Wellness categories. There was no shortlist from India in the Pharma category.

The winners of Print & Publishing, Design, Outdoor and Health & Wellness Lions will be announced today. The Media Lions winners will be announced Tuesday.

The Media Lions section has the maximum number of shortlists—nine—from India. There are five shortlists for India in the Health and Wellness category and four in Outdoor.

Indian agencies secured two shortlists each in the Print & Publishing and Design categories.

Among the 22 shortlists, FCB India leads the Indian challenge with eight shortlists through its agencies FCBUlka and FCB Interface. FCBUlka secured two shortlists for the ‘Out and Proud Classified’ campaign done for The Times of India while ‘The Punishing Signal’ by FCB Interface bagged six shortlists.

Geometry Encompass Mumbai stood at No. 2 with four shortlists for Lifebuoy’s Hackwashing campaign.

DDB Mudra, Ogilvy Mumbai, Dentsu Webchutney, Lowe Lintas Mumbai and Mindshare Mumbai secured two shortlists each.

Cannes Lions resumed the awards this year after a pause in 2020 due to Coronavirus concerns. The international festival of creativity was accepting entries for 2020 and 2021.

While the total number of entries worldwide was marginally down to 29,074 from 30,953 in 2019, India had sent 699 entries this year as compared to 1,053 sent in 2019.

India’s performance at Cannes Lions has been consistent over the years with the best-ever campaign in 2017 when she brought 40 Lions home.

In the last Cannes Lions Awards held in 2019, India had won 18 Lions despite significant reduction in categories. It was 14% less than 2018.

Globally, the total number of winners in 2019 were 932, 21% down from 1,186 in 2018.
