The dance competition was divided in two main categories —16-23 years, 24-32 years, and invited dancers across India to recreate a dance performance from Shobana’s reels in her Instagram account @shobana_danseuse.

The event received over 1,000 entries out of which only 65 entries were shortlisted by the actress. The shortlisted contestants were also given the opportunity to interact with Shobana through a virtual zoom workshop where she gave first-hand expertise on Bharatanatyam dance forms through a short performance.  The contestants were also given separate cash prizes for each age group consisting of a sum of Rs 25,000 each for winners and Rs 15,000 each for runners up. In addition, the winners and finalists will be given an opportunity to perform in a video with Shobana, which is yet to be finalised.

The sponsors of Mathurbhumi Nadanam Shobanam included Swayamvara, Joyalukkas, Pittapillil, Esaf, Ocean, Truecoat, Ponkathir and Hyundai.
