Deepal Trivedi, former editor of Ahmedabad Mirror, has started a new digital news venture, Virago Media Pvt Ltd. Based in Ahmedabad, it will also have offices in New York and Canada.

"I am honoured to launch Gujarat’s first-ever multilingual comprehensive digital media company that will deal with news, views and entertainment on various platforms. Anyone and everyone interested in the idea of India will be our reader/viewer and listener," she said in an article on LinkedIn.

Virago Media would comprise a team of 105 people across the globe with freelancers and stringers.

Trivedi says Virago would be the first media house in India to have 50% reservation for women employees and two days per month menstrual leave apart from a mental health leave.

Virago means a female warrior.

"Ever since I started dreaming about entrepreneurship, I was sure that my company will be called Virago," she says.

With over three decades of experience in journalism, Trivedi had been at the helm of Ahmedabad Mirror for the last 10 years.
