Government-run broadcaster Doordarshan, which has a mere 3.2 million subscribers on YouTube, clocked a peak live viewership of more than half-a-million (5.5 lakh) during the Republic Day Parade hours.
The only private news channel to come close to the national pubcaster was Aaj Tak, which has 44 million subscribers on YouTube. Aaj Tak had a peak live viewership of around 3.5 lakh during the parade hours.
All private channels took the live parade feed from Doordarshan.
The government-owned Press Information Bureau's YouTube channel had a peak live viewership of 75,000.
It is interesting to see the government-backed channels getting more viewership than the private broadcasters. According to the recent Edelman Trust Barometer, the public's trust in government-run websites and platforms is much higher in India as compared to other countries.
NDTV India saw a live viewership of around 90,000. Whereas, NDTV's English channel had a live viewership of 12,500 on YouTube during the parade hours.
Republic Bharat clocked a live viewership of around 31,000.
India TV with a subscriber base of 23 million had a live viewership of over 30,000.
ABP News, with a second-highest subscriber base on YouTube in the news broadcaster category, managed to clock a live viewership of 26,000 during the same hours.
News18's YouTube channel had a live viewership of around 28,000.
India Today and Republic TV, both with a subscriber base of around 4 million, had a viewership of less than 10,000.Â
CNN-News18 had a live viewership of less than 1,000.
The TV viewership measurement agency BARC has currently suspended the weekly viewership data for news channels, in the light of the ongoing TRP manipulation case probe.
