The English newspapers across four metro cities have largely been degrowing over the past four quarters with a few exceptions. But talking about the growth first, TOI and The Hindu have growth in each other’s markets that are Chennai and Delhi, respectively.

TOI grew by 12% in the Chennai market over the last four quarters from an average issue readership of 2.64 lakh in Q1 to 2.96 lakh in Q4.
On the other hand, The Hindu has been breaking into Delhi market and has grown by 22% on the last four quarters. The daily has grown from an AIR of 1.67 lakh in Q1 to 2.03 lakh in Q4.
Delhi’s largest read English daily Hindustan Times lost maximum readership among any newspaper in any metro city.HT lost 28% readers in Q4 over the previous quarter while the drop was 37% over Q1. TOI’s AIR also dropped by 21% in the last four quarters.
In terms of leadership, TOI remained No. 1 in Mumbai and Chennai while HT continues to lead Delhi with a margin of 3,000 readers. The Telegraph remains ahead of TOI in Kolkata.
