Mumbrella Asia to close down

Mumbrella Asia has just announced that it will close its Singapore operations in the next few days. Tim Burrowes, Mumbrella Founder and Content Director announced his decision this morning in a detailed letter.

Terming this a purely business call, Burrowes wrote, “In the six-and-a-half years we’ve run Mumbrella Asia, we’ve never had a profitable year. Traffic has grown and revenues have grown, but we’ve never come close to breaking even.”

“It was probably a call we should have made earlier,” he added.

However, Mumbrella’s Australia which is a profitable business for the publication will continue to run.

“Our mature business model in Australia enjoys three major sources of revenue. We have healthy advertising on our website and our daily email newsletter; we do well for sponsorship of our conferences; and we generate good revenues from event ticket sales,” wrote Burrowes.

Former Brand Equity Editor Ravi Balakrishnan who joined Mumbrella earlier this year has been offered a potential role in Australia.
