Dainik Jagran has held its leadership position in Uttar Pradesh despite a steep decline of over 14% in its average issue readership (AIR) in IRS 2019 Q2. However, the total readership of India’s largest read Hindi daily in the largest state dropped marginally over the previous quarter.
Dainik Jagran recorded an AIR of 1,03,36,000 in IRS 2019 Q2, 14.42% down from 1,20,77,000 the previous quarter. The total readership of the daily stood at 4,02,90,000, down 1.5% from 4,09,19,000 in Q1.
HT Media’s Hindi daily Hindustan retained the No. 2 position in Uttar Pradesh in terms of AIR despite losing more than 17% readers in the latest survey. The daily recorded an AIR of 82,60,000, down 17.33% from 99,91,000 in the previous quarter. However, Hindustan was No. 3 in total readership with 2,81,41,000 readers in IRS 2019 Q2, down 1.65% from a TR of 2,86,14,000 in the previous quarter.
Amar Ujala was the third-largest read daily in UP and held its AIR numbers quite firmly. The daily recorded an AIR of 80,73,000 in the current survey, down 0.2% from 80,88,000 in the previous quarter. In terms of total readership, the daily held the No. 2 position with a TR of 3,78,15,000 in Q2, down 1.45% from 3,83,72,000 in the previous quarter.
