From unexpected rains to a tie-breaker super over in the final match, the ICC World Cup 2019 was nothing short of a drama.
Though India didn't qualify for the finals, the finale between England and New Zealand turned out to be a high-octane match.
According to BARC India’s Week 29 (July 13 to 19) data, the World Cup Final amassed a total of 32.4 million Impressions with 16.8 billion viewing minutes (TG: 2+ / TV (All India) + OOH TV (India Urban)/ All channels/ live matches) for its host Star Sports.
The semi-final match between India and New Zealand had garnered 51 million Impressions while it reached 221 million viewers amounting to 43% of all World Cup viewers. It was the second most watched match after India-Pakistan face-off.
The Indo-Pak face-off recorded 229 million viewers (BARC India, All India 2+) on Star Network and Doordarshan. The match registered 67 million Impressions. Barring DD viewership, Star India recorded a viewership of 206 million for the match. According to BARC India data, 60% of all World Cup viewers tuned into the India-Pakistan match.
All India matches recorded 451 million Impressions with 209 billion viewing minutes. All World Cup matches recorded 793 million Impressions with 356.5 billion viewing minutes.
The tournament recorded 114 million reach for the opening match between England and South Africa on Star Network, which is the highest for any opening world cup game. The average Impressions recorded for the ICC CWC 2019 opening match is 101 million. In its opening week, the series recorded 269 million reach on the Star network. The inaugural week of the 10-nation tournament registered 107.2 million average Impressions.
Star Sports 1 Hindi topped the chart with 363.231 million Impressions followed by Star Sports 2 with 84.552 million Impressions and DD Sports with 66.427 million Impressions. Star Sports First acquired 65.804 million Impressions.
The England-New Zealand live match grabbed all the top five spots on the sports programming chart. Live telecast of World Cup final match on Star Sports 1 Hindi acquired the top spot with 16.301 million Impressions whereas the post-match and mid-match shows took the second and third spots. The live match simulcast on Star Sports 2 and DD Star Sports took fourth and fifth places on the chart.
