upGrad, an online education company, has strengthened its senior leadership team to capitalise on the potential opportunities in the online education sector. The company has appointed Tanya Ahluwalia as the Vice-President, Brand Marketing, while Rahul Karthikeyan will be Head, Digital Marketing.
Ahluwalia brings 18 years of experience, working with leading organisations such as Coca-Cola, BBlunt, Nike, Unilever, Delta Corp among others.
Karthikeyan has been associated with the marketing and advertising industry for last 11 years in different capacities. Karthikeyan was heading Digital Performance for the West Region at Wavemaker and worked with leading brands like Vodafone, Eureka Forbes, NMIMS and Flipkart among others.
Currently, upGrad has a strength of over 400 employees and plans to add over 100 employees in FY 20. With over 16 years of experience across corporate and retail banking, consumer internet / e-commerce and fintech, Abhishek Arora has joined upGrad as the Chief Business Officer, Consumer Business. Arora has held various leadership positions in leading Fortune 500 companies such as AP Moller Maersk, Citibank, Amazon and new-age fintech Lendingkart and he has come on board to drive overall business with focus on growth and revenue. He will be streamlining various functions such as sales, marketing, growth product and FOS to ensure process optimisation, smooth delivery and better customer experience.
The company has also brought in Kushal Dev Kashyap from Byju’s as Head, Direct Sales. He has around five years of experience in sales and business development.

upGrad widened its communication reach with marketing spends of over Rs 100 crore to launch a marketing campaign and roped in Vicky Kaushal as the brand ambassador.
During FY 19, upGrad witnessed a 113% jump in its gross revenue from Rs 57 crore in FY 18 to Rs 121 crore. With a learner base of over 300K, upGrad saw a strong uptake for its educational courses from working professionals as well as corporates. The company expects to cross Rs 250 crore gross revenue in FY 20, with a significant contribution from its college business, which is expected to grow 15X.
