Malayalam dailies Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi, and Marathi dailies Lokmat and Daily Sakal are the only four regional newspapers in the top 10 list to have added a few readers in IRS 2019 Q1, according to the average issue readership figures.
However, the total readership has presented a completely different picture with eight out of the top 10 dailies recording growth.
Interestingly, the pecking order of top 10 dailies in terms of AIR and TR is completely different. While Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama is a distant leader in AIR, it is No. 3 in TR and the No. 3 daily in AIR. Daily Thanthi is the leader in TR.
The No. 2 position in AIR is held by Eenadu (No. 4 in TR) while Lokmat is the second largest read daily in terms of total readership (No. 5 in AIR).
Present in AIR top 10, Sakshi and Sandesh have not found a place in the top 10 list according to the total readership numbers. Dinamalar and Dinakaran from TR top 10 list are not present in AIR top 10 chart.
