Flipkart, backed by Walmart, has won the online festive season sale race. Both, Flipkart and Amazon, had rolled out their big-ticket festive season sale last week and Flipkart has emerged the winner by accounting for more than half of GMV this year. According to reports, online players clocked Rs 15,000 crore in GMV during this year’s festive sale.
Flipkart dominated the sale season by cornering 62% of the market share, while Amazon could only manage 38% of the market share. Reportedly, Flipkart was aided by higher sales in mobiles and fashion. Mobiles and customer electronics made up about 75% of the festive season sale.
It must be noted that Flipkart and Amazon had spent big marketing bucks this year to publicise their respective sales, namely Big Billion Days and Great Indian Festival.
Amazon has also announced the second wave of their flagship sale. Wave two of Amazon’s Great Indian Festival will start on October 24 and end on October 28.
