Wavemaker's Vishal Jacob on how his new book will help people

For Vishal Jacob, Vice-President, Digital Media and Marketing, Wavemaker India, the journey of writing a book began four years ago when he was elevated to a position where he was required to lead the national digital team at the company. It was there that he realised that the challenges that they were facing there were all people related.

“Managing people is an art and human behaviour is a science that a lot of people are not aware off.  I also got certified as a professional coach from the NeuroLeadership Institute,” said Jacob.

Jacob holds certifications in TA (Transactional Analysis) and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). He started taking sessions at Wavemaker to help people decipher the peculiarities of human behaviour but it wasn’t until his boss challenged him to write a book that he actually got down to penning all that he had learned.

“He came up to me after a session and told me that this was very interesting and that a lot of people could benefit from it and he suggested that I write a book on this topic. Two years later, Jacob has his first book, ‘Connecting With Yourself – Why we think, feel and act the way we do’, on the shelves.

The book is the summary of all of Jacob’s learnings and in the book he has looked at issues that most of us relate to, such as:

Perceptions: Since they are the main reason behind conflicts

Growth: Since our learning styles differ and often we are not aligned with our strengths

Decisions: How we unknowingly lace them with our biases

Habits and willpower: As it is our control over little things that make us who we are

Happiness: Since it is after all every individual’s pursuit

And finally, what it means to stay connected to oneself

Speaking about his intent in writing this book, Jacob said, “There are a lot of things in this book that can help a lot of people. If even one aspect of the book can change the perspective of even one person on something then I think my job here is done.”
