Rising Star: Shipra Tandon, Strategist, Content Marketing, iProspect India

Shipra Tandon

Shipra Tandon has a degree in electronic engineering and was as far away from the world of advertising as one could be when Convonix came to her campus for campus placement.

“I had no idea about digital marketing but I cleared the aptitude test and the interview by Convonix and joined them. There was a training period of three months after which we were given our respective departments. That is how I got into SEO.”

Tandon, who joined Convonix as an Assistant Manager, moved up to the position of Manager in the three years that she was there. Tandon joined iProspect in the year 2014 as Manager SEO and today, she is Strategist, Content Marketing.

Speaking about her four years with iProspect, Tandon says, “The best thing about iProspect is that I get to do whatever I want. From day one I have had the liberty to try my hand at anything I wanted and I am grateful that I have such understanding seniors.”

Tandon has built her team and the division at iProspect from scratch. While, Intelligent Content is already present in other global markets, in APAC, India was one of their first markets.A big reason iProspect wanted to launch Intelligent Content in India was the growing demand for content as a service in the country and Tandon’s experience in the field was an added advantage.

For Tandon, the shift from SEO to content marketing was rather seamless as she was already looking after content marketing parallel to her role as Manager SEO. The real challenge, however, was building the team and leading it.

“I have learned a lot from this shift. Before this, I had no idea whether I had it in me to head a team or take decisions that are solely mine and that is the learning curve I have had here.”

According to Tandon, the most challenging project she has worked on so far was for Cleartrip.

“So, usually what happens is you make the pitch and the sales team or the seniors pitch it to the client. I prepared the pitch for Cleartrip and showed it to my then EVP who suggested changes and approved the whole thing. Two hours before the pitch I asked him whether he was presenting the pitch and he asked me to do the pitch. I had never presented a pitch before in my life and with just two hours before the presentation, I was petrified. But he showed confidence in me and the presentation went smoothly. We won the pitch and till today, it remains one of the most memorable projects I have worked on.”

Speaking about the project she has had the most fun working for,Tandon said, “The most fun project that I have worked on so far was for Aegon Life Insurance. They were our very first client after Intelligent Content was launched. Basically, we were keen to take our SEO efforts to the next level, so we started thinking of what next and we approached them with content marketing. Currently, we are doing end-to-end content creation, development and marketing for them. I learned a lot from working on this project.”

Tandon believes that the fact that she performs exceptionally well under pressure is one of her strengths but she also feels that the passion she brings to her work can sometimes backfire.

Ask her what she considers her biggest achievement and Tandon feels that leading a team all on her own at such a young age is definitely something she is immensely proud of.

When not working,Tandon loves dancing and organising and managing events for her family. She loves the challenges and thrills that come with managing events and it is what she would have loved to be doing if advertising had not happened to her.

“In my family not just me but my mother, my sister and even my cousin are interested in event management and we often joke that if we ought to do something together, then we should all just start an event management company.”
