Gillette's latest film on razors gets ad-interim injunction from Chennai High Court

The High Court of Chennai has granted ad-interim injunction on the impugned advertisement of Gillette India’s latest television commercial for its razors that reportedly disparages hair removal creams. The next hearing is on October 9. Gillette India has been given 24 hours to comply with the order.

The complaint was filed a few days back by Reckitt Benckiser.

In an official statement, Reckitt Benckiser said, “We confirm that Hon’ble High Court of Chennai has granted ad-interim injunction on the impugned advertisement of Gillette India Ltd. disparaging hair removal creams, till the next hearing, October 9, 2017. We will not be able to offer any further comments since the matter is sub-judice.”

The ad film, which has been removed from air, showed a woman using hair removal cream, which caused pimples on her skin and other harmful effects and urges consumers to use the razor instead.

In 2016, Gillette had taken Reckitt to court for publishing ‘disparaging’ advertisements against its Venus razors.

In the impugned video advertisement, the defendant's product ‘Veet’ hair removal cream is stated to cause smoothening of skin up to twice as long as shaving, while showing a blue razor in the background in a comparing manner.
