MIB issues four licences in May

In May 2017, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued licences to four channels -- Zee Kannada HD, Zee Telugu HD, Euro News and Public Comedy.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) secured two non-news uplinking licences for Zee Kannada HD and Zee Telugu HD. Writeman Media secured an uplinking non-news licence for Public Comedy and Catvision secured a downlinking news licence for Euro News.

As of May 31, 2017, there are 882 permitted private satellite TV channels which have valid permission in India. Of those, 391 are news and current affairs channels and 491 are non-news and current affairs channels.
