India Today Television has decided to part ways with Karan Thapar, the face of ‘To The Point’, as his three-year contract with the broadcast network ended in March this year. He hosted the last episode on April 14.
The show, which occupies the 7 pm slot from Monday to Friday, still continues. When Thapar had taken up the show in 2014, it was slotted at 9 pm and was later rescheduled to the early prime time slot. The other shows hosted by him were ‘Nothing But The Truth’ on Saturday and ‘India Today India Tomorrow’ on Sunday.
Thapar had joined the channel on April 2014, ending his decade-long relationship with CNN News18 (then CNN-IBN) where he hosted popular shows like ‘Devil’s Advocate’ and ‘The Last Word’.
Thapar began his career in journalism with The Times in Lagos, Nigeria, and later worked as its Leader Writer on the Indian subcontinent till 1981. In 1982, he joined London Weekend Television where he worked for the next 11 years. He then moved to India where he worked with Hindustan Times Television Group, Home TV and United Television before setting up his own production house ‘Infotainment Television’ in August 2001, which makes programmes for Doordarshan and Channel News Asia, among others.
Thapar's association with Network18 started in March 2004 with current affairs programme Tonight at 10 (later re-christened India Tonight) on CNBC.
