GEC Watch: Star Plus gains big to regain lead in Urban and U+R markets; Rishtey leads Rural

Despite having two of its shows in the top five programmes, Colors witnessed a steep fall in the U+R markets

In Week 7 (February 11-17, 2017) of BARC India’s viewership numbers, Star Plus gained huge numbers to grab the lead position in Urban and combined Urban + Rural markets. It is interesting to note that Star Plus had only one show in urban markets in the top five programmes chart, while Colors has two shows in U+R and Urban markets and one show in rural markets.

Colors’ Naagin Season 2 and Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki continue to be among the top programmes in U+R and Urban markets. Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show too is among top programmes in U+R and Urban markets. Sony Pal’s Baalveer has entered the top programmes list in Rural markets.

Top channels in U+R markets

Star Plus gained eyeballs to regain the No. 1 spot with 657.742 million Impressions against 609.140 million Impressions in Week 6. Colors witnessed a steep fall in numbers to slip to No. 2 with 571.698 million Impressions against last week’s 625.658 million Impressions. Despite a fall in numbers, Rishtey stayed at No. 3 with 428.466 million Impressions. Zee TV at No. 4 garnered 414.538 million Impressions followed by its sister channel Zee Anmol with 406.528 million Impressions. Sony Pal stood at No. 6 with 398.584 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 7 with 396.285 million Impressions. At No. 8, Star Utsav garnered 392.261 million Impressions. Life OK at No. 9 garnered 373.881 million Impressions while Sony SAB trailed with 325.293 million Impressions.

Top programmes in U+R markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin Season 2 led the flock with 11.837 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya was at No. 2 with 10.903 million Impressions. Naagin Season 2 on Rishtey garnered 9.354 million Impressions. At No. 4, Sony TV’s The Kapil Sharma Show garnered 9.059 million Impressions. Colors’ Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 5 got 8.212 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Star Plus regained its leadership as it garnered 459.268 million Impressions. At No. 2, Colors garnered 386.969 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 3 clocking a total of 281.448 million Impressions. Life OK climbed to No. 4 with 247.733 million Impressions. Sony SAB slipped to No. 5 with 245.561 million Impressions. Zee TV stayed put at No. 6 with 245.392 million Impressions, followed by &TV with 134.598 million Impressions. Sony Pal stood at No. 8 with 119.920 million Impressions. At No. 9, Rishtey garnered 111.353 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 10 with 97.600 million Impressions.

Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show stands at No. 2 with 6.876 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 3 with 6.554 million Impressions. Colors’ Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 4 with 5.862 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai trailed at No. 5 with 5.834 million Impressions.
